Eastern Michigan University students achieve Above All Odds...
Ms. Kristal Moore, is a 33 year old Detroit native and single mother of two boys: Tre Raines, 16 and James Atkins who is 3.
Ms. Moore moved to Washtenaw County in August 2011 after a long battle with addiction. After being admitted into the Dawn Farm inpatient treatment facility and through participation in their program Ms. Moore learned how to manage her disease and maintain full abstinence from drugs and alcohol.
In May 2012 she and her children decided to permanently reside in the Ann Arbor area, at which time, she began the Social Work program at Eastern Michigan University.
Ms. Moore continues to volunteer her time helping women in recovery and sharing her experience, strength and hope with others . She is a member of Ekklesia Fellowship Ministries in Ypslanti, MI and a member of the Pioneer High School Booster Club. Ms. Moore is a full time mother, currently works for Housing Access of Washtenaw County, attends classes at EMU full time and donates her time in various areas of the community. Ms. Moore's long term goal is to attain a Master's of Social Work and continue to work in the recovery community. She would like to give to others the gift that was so freely given to her.
The Above All Odds scholarship has helped her to pursue this dream by helping her to purchase books and continue to work toward her goals.
The EMU Black Alumni Chapter congratulates Ms. Kristal Moore on her determination and focus to beat the odds!
